WHAT is The ARK in the PARK?

A Church of England sponsored project to engender and nurture community spirit at Newcastle Great Park: a “Fresh Expression”, understanding that many people are too busy to go to a traditional church and so, bringing the church to them.

It involves a Church community worker - Ruth Hewett - together with an office, and a house – the ARK. WHERE is The ARK in the PARK? The ARK in the PARK is located in Melbury Great Park at 62, Featherstone Grove, NE3 5RJ.

WHEN did it open? The ARK opened at a blessing, by Bishop Martin, on 31st January 2010.

WHY is it called THE ARK in the PARK? It is called the Ark in the PARK because it is not a traditional church. People from all cultures and religions are invited to be part of it.

The ARK is a great brand name, it’s attractive to children and older people. It’s a story that is part of many religions. It suggests a place of safety and adventure at the same time, just what we hope it will be!

HOW can I contact the ARK? Please call personally at the house, telephone 0191 2170367 or visit our website or email (To be advised). You will be assured of a warm welcome and be able to air your views, in complete confidence if necessary, whatever they are.

WHAT’S at the ARK for ME? There is an activity programme - which you can influence just by letting us know what you’d like to do, what’s missing in the Great Park and when you’d be available to do it. Activities are both at the ARK and in nearby venues like the Brunton First School; the local Churches. St. Aidan’s Church, Brunton Park St. John’s Church Kingston Park (link); and other locations.

Melbury and Warkworth Woods
