As most residents may be aware, the application for an alcohol license for 31 Featherstone Grove was not granted by the Licensing Sub Committee on the 15th February 2011.  The applicant has three weeks in which to appeal.  The Residents Association has spoken with the Licensing Sub-Committee at Newcastle City Council requesting full details of the determination and the reasons for not granting the license, for posting on this website, and has been advised that the determination will not be ready for approximately 10 to 15 days from the 15th February.  As soon as this is received, it will be posted on the website.

Residents will be aware that there is a restrictive covenant relating to the sale of alcohol on the Great Park, and the Residents Association cited this covenant to the licensing sub-committee as an objection.  The covenant is a matter of fact and the Council immediately responded to us advising that a restrictive covenant does not constitute an objection.  No further correspondence was entered into with the Council as the Residents Association was not in a position to make any further comment on behalf of residents.  Consequently the Residents Association was not invited to attend the hearing.

Residents were of course entitled to make their own individual representations to the Council and no doubt these were taken into consideration by the Council on the 15th February.

Melbury and Warkworth Woods

Melbury & Warkworth Woods Residents Association is managed by a committee of volunteers all of whom live on Melbury or Warkworth Woods on the Newcastle Great Park, and who were elected at an Annual General Meeting.

The committee meet regularly on the last Monday of every month (with the exception of August). Membership of the Association is automatic to residents of both Melbury and Warkworth Woods and there are no subscriptions payable.

The Aims and Objectives of the Association are to represent the best interest of residents both individually and collectively, by liaising with the Consortium of housebuilders, Newcastle City Council and its Councillors, the Parish Council and other decision makers concerning the Great Park.
